Before you publish or hand in a report, have AI check every claim against its sources

Give Claude your document together with its sources and ask it to flag every claim that doesn't match a source or has no source at all, pointing back to the line. The author ran it on their most viewed post and it caught 2 unsupported claims.

The problem

Reports, proposals and posts are full of numbers and "studies show". It felt sourced when you wrote it, but checking line by line which claim has no source or which number was copied wrong is hard to do yourself.

What to prepare

  • Your document and its sources

How to do it

  1. 1

Give it the document and the sources

Paste the full text and attach every source it cites (links, files or tables). Anything you don't attach can only be flagged as "no source found".

  2. 2

    Run the author's check prompt

The author says this one prompt "did most of the work".

    Prompt

Replace the 1 ✎ dashed part with your own details, then copy.

Check this against its sources. Flag every claim that doesn't match and every claim with no source. Link each flag to the line it came from.

Document and sources: paste the document and sources (sample, replace with yours)
  3. 3

Make the call on each flag yourself

The author's rule: AI does the first pass, a person applies judgment. For an unsourced line, add a source, cut it, or reword it as opinion.
